Connecting Education with Practice: Students of the School of Financial and Banking Technology Participate in Professional Practice at Vietcap Securities Joint Stock Company
In the context of Vietnam’s financial market increasingly developing toward greater modernization, transparency, and professionalism, providing students with opportunities to gain exposure to the business environment during their studies is of significant importance to application-oriented higher education. Professional Practice 1 not only helps students reinforce their professional knowledge but also broadens their understanding of the labor market, professional requirements, and working culture in the financial sector. As part of the Professional Practice course, students of the School of Financial and Banking Technology, University of Finance and Marketing, participated in a visit, study session, and practical experience at Vietcap Securities Joint Stock Company. This activity is part of the School’s orientation toward strengthening the connection between education and practice, helping students move from acquiring knowledge in the classroom to observing, exploring, and comparing it with professional activities in an enterprise setting.
At Vietcap, students were introduced to the overall operating model of a securities company, the roles of different departments within the financial services ecosystem, as well as the practical requirements for personnel working in the securities sector. Through presentations by the company’s representatives, students had the opportunity to learn about securities brokerage, investment advisory services, market analysis, customer service, risk management, and compliance requirements in the industry. A notable aspect of the practice session was that students were not only introduced to the company but also given closer exposure to the actual working environment. Concepts that may seem familiar from their academic curriculum, such as stocks, bonds, investment portfolios, risk, returns, market fluctuations, and investor behavior, were viewed more concretely through the operations of a securities company. As a result, students came to understand that financial knowledge does not stop at formulas or theoretical concepts but needs to be applied flexibly in the processes of analysis, advisory services, and decision-making.

In addition to professional knowledge, the practice session also helped students gain a clearer understanding of the skills required to work in the financial and securities sector. These include the ability to keep up to date with market information, analytical thinking, communication skills when interacting with clients, a careful attitude toward data processing, and a commitment to complying with professional ethical standards. These are important factors that help students better prepare for their internships, job searches, and career development after graduation.

The professional practice activity at Vietcap provided students with many practical and meaningful experiences, contributing to narrowing the gap between “learning to know” and “learning to do.” At the same time, the program further affirmed the training orientation of the School of Financial and Banking Technology in connecting the university with enterprises, placing learners at the center, and aiming to develop high-quality human resources for the financial, banking, and securities sectors.
