Introduction to the School of Financial and Banking Technology
1. History of Formation and Development
The Institute of Financial and Banking Technology originated from the Faculty of Finance – Banking, established under Decision No. 05/QĐ-ĐHMKT dated May 27, 2004. Since its inception, the Faculty has continuously develope
d in both scale and training quality. In 2006, it began offering bachelor’s programs in Corporate Finance and Banking. By 2011, it had launched a master’s program in Finance – Banking, and in 2015, it expanded further with a new major in Quantitative Finance while also taking over the majors in Insurance Finance and Investment from the Faculty of Taxation – Customs. In 2016, the Faculty admitted the first cohort of doctoral students in Finance – Banking. In October 2017, it received a number of lecturers from the Faculty of Finance of the College of Finance – Customs. By 2023, new programs were introduced, including the Talented Bachelor in Finance – Banking and the Bachelor in Financial Technology.
In August 2025, the University Council issued Resolution No. 198/NQ-HĐT to rename the “Faculty of Finance – Banking” to the “Institute of Financial and Banking Technology,” marking a historic milestone that reflects the university’s strategic vision of integrating education with practice and embracing the FinTech trend. In September 2025, the Institute further expanded by incorporating the Department of Public Finance from the Faculty of Public Management – Real Estate, thereby strengthening its young, dynamic, and dedicated human resources.
With its new name, the Institute of Financial and Banking Technology is poised to create more opportunities for learning, research, and scientific transfer—laying a solid foundation for the University of Finance – Marketing to affirm its pioneering position in high-quality finance and banking education.
2. Faculty Development
The teaching staff serves as the cornerstone of the Institute’s training quality and is constantly strengthened in both expertise and size. From its original team of four lecturers at establishment, the Institute now has 65 lecturers, including 10 Associate Professors, 23 PhDs, and 32 Masters, with over 50% holding doctoral degrees or higher—the highest ratio in the university. This strong team of educators and researchers contributes significantly to enhancing the Institute’s academic reputation and training excellence.
3. Training Scale and Quality
At present, the Institute’s training scale includes nearly 4,500 full-time undergraduate students, of which about 70% are enrolled in integrated programs, talent programs, or full-English programs; over 550 master’s students; and 100 doctoral candidates in Finance – Banking.
The Institute’s curricula are regularly reviewed and updated to align with international standards and professional certification frameworks, meeting national accreditation requirements. The Institute emphasizes practical learning through enterprise field trips, expert seminars, and modern simulation labs, enabling students to build professional competencies in a realistic training environment.

4. Scientific Research
Scientific research is one of the Institute’s core strengths. Between 2020 and 2024, lecturers at the Institute led 23 ministerial/provincial-level projects and 66 university-level projects, authored 7 textbooks and 2 monographs, and organized numerous scientific seminars at institutional, university, national, and international levels. These efforts have contributed to the dissemination of knowledge and the enhancement of the University of Finance – Marketing’s academic reputation.
Students of the Institute are also highly active in research, with 277 student research projects conducted during 2020–2024, including: 34 projects winning the “Young Economic Talent” award at the university level, 13 projects winning the “National Olympiad in Econometrics and Applications", 11 projects receiving ministerial-level awards, and 2 projects winning the Eureka Award.
Several student papers have been published in reputable domestic and international journals, reflecting the growing quality and recognition of student research.
5. Academic Clubs and Student Activities
The Institute currently has several active clubs and teams, including the Investor Club, English Club, Social Work Team, Media Team, and the Youth Union – Student Association. These organizations host a wide range of academic and extracurricular events such as the Investor Contest, English Speaking Contest, and the Finance – Banking Student Research Competition, along with numerous career-oriented workshops and practical skill training sessions.
Through these vibrant activities, students develop critical thinking, professional skills, confidence, and global adaptability—creating a dynamic and innovative learning environment. Many students have earned top awards at university, city, and national competitions.


6. Industry and Alumni Engagement
The Institute has established both an Enterprise Connection Board and an Alumni Liaison Board to strengthen partnerships and bridge academic training with real-world practice. Businesses and alumni actively participate in the Institute’s activities, including curriculum development workshops, career fairs, and freshman welcome events. Notably, January 9 has been designated as the Institute’s Traditional Day—an annual occasion to honor and reunite generations of lecturers, students, and corporate partners, reflecting the spirit of “Pride – Connection – Development.”
7. Outstanding Achievements

Certificates of Merit from the Rector of the University of Finance – Marketing for being an Outstanding Faculty Collective for five consecutive years (2015–2019 and 2020–2025).

Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister (2020) for outstanding achievements contributing to the cause of building socialism and national defense.
